Three Exceptional Coffees from Dalat - The Morère Heritage since 1897
Our story begins in 1897. Today, the Morère family grows three exceptional coffees in the Highlands in Dalat, Vietnam. Our Bourbon Pointu, one of the rarest coffees in the world (less than 1% of world production), reveals floral aromas of unrivalled finesse. Our Bourbon Rond embodies the sunny generosity of the Vietnamese terroir. Our Catimor expresses a noble, controlled power. Grown at 1,500 metres and hand-picked with the M'Nông Chil ethnic group, our coffees embody four generations of passion and excellence.
Our Exceptional Coffees
Three terroirs, three characters, one passion
Why MORÈRE 1897
Excellence You Can Verify
Roasted in Dalat
Our coffee is not roasted in Europe: it is roasted in Dalat, 20 km from the plantation. From tree to cup: 20 days.
8 Years of Apprenticeship
Since 2007, Pierre Morère, our founder, has lived in the village of Da Sar. After eight years of apprenticeship with the M'Nông Chil ethnic group, we continue to keep this know-how alive by their side.
Agroforestry since 1897
We did not “convert to organic”. We practise agroforestry and sustainable farming, with respect for all living things. The cultivated land has remained intact since the very beginning. Some sites are grown under a natural canopy.
Bourbon Pointu from Vietnam
Born in Ethiopia, the cradle of Arabica. Selected on Réunion Island in the 18th century. And in Dalat, where we are among the few Vietnamese producers. A variety so rare that it grows in only a handful of terroirs worldwide.
A True Story: From 1897 to Today
Settled in Vietnam in 1897, alongside Dr Alexandre Yersin, discoverer of the plague bacillus and pioneer explorer of the Lang Bian plateau, Adolphe Faraut, Pierre Morère's maternal great-grandfather, grew Bourbon Pointu there before 1915. These high volcanic lands, with their unique temperate climate and regular morning mist, proved ideal for growing it in exceptional conditions.
In 1976, the family had to leave Vietnam. The plantations were swallowed up by economic development. For more than three decades, the M'Nông Chil ethnic group, a loyal partner from the very beginning, preserved the memory of the exact location of these family lands. In 2007, Pierre Morère returned to Vietnam in the footsteps of his ancestors. Thanks to the remarkable loyalty of the M'Nông Chil ethnic group, he found the original plantations and rebuilt the family heritage through 8 years of apprenticeship by their side.
The Exceptional Terroir of Dalat
The Highlands in Dalat, at 1,500 metres, offer climatic conditions unique in Vietnam. The temperate climate (15-25°C all year round), the mineral-rich volcanic basalt soil, the protective morning mist and the wide day/night temperature range create an ideal environment for complex aromas. The high altitude slows the ripening of the cherries, allowing the beans to concentrate more natural sugars.
Grown in agroforestry, under a natural canopy on some sites, our coffee has preserved biodiversity and the natural balance of the plants for more than a century. An ecosystem intact since 1897 guarantees a quality and purity impossible to reproduce in modern industrial plantations. Every bean of Bourbon Pointu coffee carries the imprint of this preserved terroir.
Artisanal Roasting and an Ultra-Short Supply Chain
Unlike coffees imported as green beans and roasted in Europe, our coffee is roasted by hand in Dalat, 20 km from the plantations. The traditional methods handed down by the M'Nông Chil ethnic group respect the unique character of each variety. This ultra-short supply chain, from plantation to shipping in about twenty days, guarantees optimal freshness and preserved aromas. Micro-lots of a few dozen kilos allow rigorous quality control, impossible in mass production.
